The Gravity Discovery Centre and Observatory works in partnership with Indigenous Tours to showcase cultural storytelling and Astronomy. Following storytelling the Indigenous constellations will be identified during a laser guided tour of the night sky, before moving onward to the observatory to gaze at the stars. The Gravity Discovery Centre and Observatory hosts an Aboriginal Storytelling and Astronomy night once a month. 

Public night stargazing visits are held regardless of the weather. If viewing through the scopes is not possible, due to inclement weather, a fun and informative session will be held in the GDC Theatre and a cloudy night pass will be issued (free return).

The Gravity Café will be open until half an hour before your session starts and dinner bookings are preferred but not essential.

The tour includes a 30 minute presentation, a laser tour to showcase constellations, followed by stargazing.

Daytime tours are available for groups and schools and include fun, informative tours of the Discovery Gallery and Cosmology Gallery, Leaning Tower & Solar system walk.

These tours can be coupled with lunch and/or morning tea, provided by the Gravity Café.

Tours of the Gravity Discovery Centre provide fun, exciting and inspiring science educational information. We aim to ignite people's interest in Science, Space and Aboriginal Culture. Participants perform free fall object experiments from the Leaning Tower, engage with
interactive exhibits and displays, and learn about our Astronomy, the Solar System and the Big Bang Theory. 

Lunch options are a choice between lasagne chips and salad, fish chips and salad or nachos.

Morning tea is tea and coffee with cake.
Available Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00am to 2.00pm (times can be varied to suit).

The GDC Observatory offers fun tours and educational programs in Astronomy. Tours are developed by WA’s leading Astronomy educators and are entertaining and informative. All ages and abilities are catered for. The night will feature an astronomy presentation before you then move over to our observatory where you will look through the telescopes.

Observatory tours are delivered by WA’s leading Astronomy educators and are entertaining and informative.

All ages and abilities are catered for and support the teaching of the wonders of the universe. Observatory tours include a 30 minute presentation, laser tour and observing through our telescopes in our world class stargazing facility.

The dinner options are lasagne chips and salad, fish chips and salad or nachos. Please give the cafe 24 hours notice of meal options.

 Astronomy Field Nights include and astronomer coming to you provide stargazing through telescopes and/or a presentation and/or a laser tour. You can choose any one of these experiences or include all three. 

How does an Astro Field Night work? 

We arrive approximately one hour prior to the scheduled start time to set up.

At the scheduled time we start the evening. A common format starts with a 30-40 minute presentation indoors and the content will be relevant depending on whether you are a school group or a public group..

Once that is complete, we head out to the telescopes where we conduct a 5min to 10min laser guided tour of the night sky, highlighting constellations, planets (if available) and satellites (if flying over).

Participants are then welcomed to observe through the telescopes, each of which is pointed at a different target. Our Astronomer then walks amongst the guests explaining to them what they are observing through the telescope and answering any questions they may have.

Sessions last approximately two hours.

There is no limit to the number of participants dependent on the area available. 

Our standard charge for an Astronomy Field Night is $450 per Astronomy Night
(Perth Metro Area, with no limit to student numbers).

Why choose the Gravity Discovery Centre?

The GDC has provided Astronomy Incursions to WA schools and communities for the last 10 years.

Our Chief Astronomer has over 20 years of experience in providing Astronomy Education and Outreach (teaching K-12 and University level courses) along with engaging in active research. The GDC also maintains international collaborations with various astronomers and institutions including NASA/JPL and the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA).

Join in the astronomy fun at the Neergabby/Gingin Dark Sky Star Party.

The event will be held on Friday and Saturday night at the Neergabby Grounds.

Camping is available on site and is tent only.

We encourage you to bring along your own telescopes/binoculars to take full advantage of the dark skies of Gingin. Astrophotography is also encouraged.

Public stargazing will be run by the GDC both Friday and Saturday night which you are welcome to join.
